Welcome to the forty-first issue of my weekly news article, Love dA Lit! Every Sunday this news article will aim to promote volunteer opportunities, various resources, prompts, challenges, and workshops, as well as highlighting various contests, interviewing various members of the literature community and spotlighting a specific group every week. This is by no means a complete list of all the literature going-ons, merely a tool to help you get involved and stay informed.

TheShelfLife is a group "dedicated to promoting the published work of deviantART writers." Much like a library TheShelfLife has put together a list of deviants, entitled "The Shelf", who have been published in various ways. Learn more about this group by clicking here!
The ever amazing Memnalar agreed to let me ask him a few questions regarding TheShelfLife.
[Star!]How is TheShelfLife different from the other literature groups on dA?
My group has sharks and ice cream and airships and will save you money on your car insurance! No, those are lies. Filthy lies. What TheShelfLife actually does is attempt to promote the published work of writers on deviantART in something resembling a centralized location. As far as I know, it's the only Lit group on dA with that specific mission, although there are groups that serve as the dA portal for independent publishing companies, zines, and other such entities.
[Star!]What was your goal when you began TheShelfLife? Has that changed?
While I was a Lit GM, I started posting interviews in a small series called "Deviants in Print," in which I picked the brains of dA writers who had been published by traditional or nontraditional means. I eventually came to realize that there are quite a few dA folk who have achieved publishing credits, and rather than (or in addition to) trying to interview these people one at a time all by myself, it might be useful to make a group dedicated to promoting them and their work.
The goal hasn't changed, but my outlook on the group has. Since getting started, I'm figuring out that this is quite a bit of work for one person, so I'm looking toward swelling the ranks of Contributors on the site to provide aid in posting blogs promoting dA's published writers.
[Star!]In your opinion, what do you think is the most challenging aspect of getting published?
That's a deceptively simple question, and a lot depends on whether we're talking about traditional publishing (in which you send queries and manuscripts off to a periodical, magazine, publisher, etc.) and nontraditional publishing (self-publishing, print-on-demand, and so forth).
Generally speaking, I think it comes down to educating yourself as to the realities of publishing no matter which avenue you intend to follow. Knowing the markets, learning the ebb and flow of the process, keeping up with trends, and doing your homework as to the do's and don'ts of the business will reap dividends in peace of mind, reputation and (hopefully) actual money.
[Star!]Do you have any advice for those wanting to get their work published?
I would refer them to people who are doing it much more successfully (and explain it much more entertainingly) than I.
Deviants in Print articles:

D.L. Meyer news.deviantart.com/article/12…
E. Kristin Anderson news.deviantart.com/article/13…
Maija Haavisto news.deviantart.com/article/14…
[Star!]Anything else of note that you would like to share?
Only that the vast resources in the dA Literature community cannot be overstated, nor should they be overlooked.

Groups like Adopt-A-Writer, Writers-Workshop, CRLiterature and many more.
But this above all: Participate. Talk to people. Ask questions. Offer commentary on the writing of others, and be an adult when someone comments on yours. Becoming a good writer and getting published are as much a matter of interpersonal communication as they are about attention to the craft. Get good at both.

Checking In
It's been quite a while since my last journal entry, about five years. I hope whoever is reading this knows I've never forgotten anyone and I think of all the friends I made here with such love and joy. I'm not sure how many people still linger on DA, but I hope that if you somehow stumble back to my page you know that I love you and wish you well. There is simply too much to go over for the span of five years, so I'll keep it short and sweet. I love you and I missed you. I don't write quite as much as I used to, but I've started dabbling more often again and was thinking of posting once more. I'm terribly out of practice, but it's something that's always been cathartic so it doesn't matter too much to me how "good" it is. Sometimes you just have to get the feelings out. Anyways, I hope you are having a wonderfully lovely day, my lovelies. How about some questions! What's your current favorite song? A video game you can't stop playing? TV show or movie you wish everyone else would
Renewal
It has been a rough few years for myself and my family. It is strange to think that for once in my adult life that I am legitimately doing well, not pretending or being close but not quite there. Things are almost infinitely better than 6 months ago and, if I'm honest, it feels like that was years ago. DA has always been a home and as I've slowly gotten better I find myself missing it and all the friends I've made more and more. I know I do not elaborate much on my personal life, but perhaps now that so much is behind me I can allow myself to discuss it more. In truth, I'm not even sure where to begin, but updating on what happened in the la
Birthdays and Change
I wanted to thank all the lovelies who wished me happy birthday recently, I read all your comments and it made me extremely happy. ♥ It was nice to hop on and see that I was thought of, I truly appreciate it beyond words.
However, I know have been very absent for a few months now. Things have not be going well in my life for the majority of the year (and if I'm honest the last 2 years) now and I have had to put DA on the back burner. I still find myself coming to the site, reading comments/replies, looking at deviations, but currently I am overwhelmed by everything that I can't bring myself to do much else.
I find myself now on the pr
