I've always, always felt extremely pessimistic about DA's literature community. I don't submit my writing on dA anymore, nor do I read other people's submissions. I'm not really a visual artist, but I can finally understand the despondency a lot of the artists here feel about the front page: the 'literature' that makes it to dA's front page is, way too often for comfort, godawful. Back in... 07, I think, it was routine for a certain lineup of poets to consistently hit the front page, flipping out whenever anyone tried to offer advice or critique and hiding behind the all too familiar visual artist's defense of "it's mah style!". All the while, you would have dozens of insanely talented, hardworking writers having their work completely overlooked. I know this isn't a problem/situation unique to the lit community here, but the thing is, it only takes a second to glance at someone's drawing or photography. It takes an investment of time to actually read, and so many people here don't seem willing to make that investment.
But now I sort of wish I found these "Love dA Lit" posts a lot earlier. I feel like they might be raising the bar and giving some much needed direction, attention and inspiration to the once rather directionless and ignored dA literature community. So. Good work, and thank you for your dedication.
dA will always have a huge section of not so good writing and it can take a while to weed through everything to find some really great pieces, but they are there. As you said there are dozens of talented and hardworking writers out there.
Aww, well it is never too late to get involved or participate a bit more. I really am glad you feel that way.
