LIT me explain u a thing...about literature news
There is a lot of it.
2013 is all ready [more than] half over. I don't know where the time has gone, but it's gone. Now, Nichrysalis had this fantastic idea about a "recap" of the significant news and events happening around the literature community and he kindly gave me his blessing to do something with this idea!
However, I know how much goes on during the year and one article might be a bit overwhelming [for me to do and for you to read] so I've decided to split it up into two six month segments. January to June and July to December.
Be prepared.
If you manage to make it through all of this I will let you ride on a unicorn or give you cupcakes. Or cupcakes while you ride the unicorn.
January | February | March | April | May | June
January
Lit Community Relations:
News:
- Writing Opportunities (Publishing) is submitted. [Guess what, it's still being updated! Check it out! Go, go!]
- BeccaJS gave us this to think about: "Are your deviations really in the right category?" So, really do you know if they're in the right category? CV's are volunteers, but are always looking for input so spit it out, what do you want to see from your friendly neighborhood lit cvs?
- The Seniority Announcement of January honored a few of our own literature community members: raspil, spoems, vespera, dreamsinstatic, OfOneSoul, FuzzyHoser, MagicalJoey, inknalcohol, and mirz333!
- neurotype-on-discord made sure we started the year out right with that question and then these articles: No One Cares About Your Story [and guess what, it's not exactly about that. It's an article about how to make people care about your story.] and Fanfiction, Fiction, and Nonfiction, because there is a distinction!
- The group WritersInk put out a fantastic series of articles concerning DD's: DDs: An Introduction, The DD Team, Identifying a Possible DD
- We can't forget that Pride and Prejudice turned 200 in January as well. What a busy month!
- Before you scroll down don't forget January marked the My Prompt Journal (Lit Community Experiment cont.), which had a great turnout. If you like things like that, maybe you should watch CRLiterature...
Writing Contests and Projects:
- There were quite a few competitions and events going on in January like the "A Hunt For Literature", a Scavenger hunt for lit pieces that found on this list, it was tons of fun!
- The month was also the start of LiliWrites's Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive which was a project inspired by thorns's Complaint Challenge and garnered a ton of DD suggestions. You don't even need a drive to suggest to our CV's either.
- The Alternate Universe Contest and the Review Competition were two other great contests that began in January. Can't forget the Critmas Results!
In the Lit Forum:
- Before you go asking for advice take a stop at Master raspil's forum topic that leads to an outside dA link: 7 Characteristics of Successful Fiction Writers.
- PinkyMcCoversong posts her forum discussion "HOW PUBLISHING WORKS: Your questions answered by folks in the industry." Did you know you can still post and ask questions, but be sure to read through some of the other questions first before asking. It may have all ready been answered! She also started a movement, "JanNoWriMo" a time to bust out that unfinished NaNoWriMo or Camp NaNoWriMo draft and edit!
- Cakelord neurotype-on-discord loves to ask question to make you think, this time she asked "How to write convincing characters?" to help you understand what makes characters believable and what you can do to help that.
- doodlerTM began a conversation about Learning about the craft vs. Learning the craft.
- Not sure how to gratefully and gracefully accept critique? isthisthingstillon started up a forum topic with just that in mind: Gratefully, Gracefully Accepting Critique.
- We all have our stumbling blocks as far as what we're comfortable writing and what we know we can write. HaveTales-WillTell challenges that and wanted to know how far [you've] come since joining dA!
February

- Want some good reasons to write? neurotype-on-discord delivered: Good Reasons to Write, short but true. Don't forget she also started that Reprobates Debate: Prosetry, where she fostered an environment for the discussion of what makes prosetry...prosetry Or what doesn't. Which turned exceptionally interesting! Rejection isn't easy and neurotype-on-discord made sure February was full of vibrant discussion topics and information. dparparita gave a nice Survival Guide for the Thin-Skinned Writer
- WritersInk continued their journals concerning DD's with How to Suggest a DD and DDs: Wrap-up and Discussion. Then discusses a bit about Daily Literature Deviations

- We all have secrets, writing secrets that is. ,We have stuffed secrets such as how we still can't spell that word, don't know how to use the semi-colon, overuse of metaphors, and never finishing that poem, beneath all that discarded paper and overused pens. BeccaJS, by the Grace of the Mighty Word, offered to hear those confessionals.
- Why do you poem/prose? I told you neurotype-on-discord likes these "make you think" questions.

NaPoWriMo is National Poetry Writing Month, the challenge to write a poem every day in April, Camp NaNoWriMo is like National Novel Writing Month, but with less strict word count goals, last but not least ScriptFrenzy tackles the challenge of writing a 100 page script/multiple scripts [it isn't as easy as you would think].
